We are in the midst of a greenwashing scandal where brands everywhere are telling consumers that they are sustainable/ eco-friendly/ plastic free/ vegan/ ethical/ fair-trade …. (you name it, they’re saying it).
So it takes the most conscious of consumers to question what really is going on behind closed doors.
In fact it feels almost rare to come across a brand that is so genuine in its mission but Yuggen, I can say with confidence, is one of the golden few. Encouraging consumers to reduce their waste footprint, planting a tree with every purchase and committing to 100% plastic free packaging are just some examples of how they are paving the way.
I first stumbled across the brand on Instagram where Yuggen’s page perfectly showcases their beautiful variety of reusable products.
It’s their reusable silicone bags that the brand have become best known for – endlessly reusable, they’re the perfect alternative to plastic ziplock bags. Imagine how much waste you could reduce every year if you used these instead!
- 100% airtight and leak-proof
- Made out of sand derived food grade silicone
- Cooking, freezing, microwaving and dishwasher safe
- Low weight and foldable
- Comes in two sizes: medium holds 1000ml, large holds 1500ml
This weekend we harvested the rhubarb that we’d forced in a terracotta pot outside – although mum made a delicious rhubarb crumble we had too much to use at once so I’ve popped the rest in these Yuggen bags – they’re perfect for freezing to avoid food waste!
I also love Yuggen’s bamboo cutlery set which, in its cotton case, is perfect to carry on the go so that you can avoid plastic utensils when eating out and about. With a knife, fork, spoon, chopsticks, straw AND straw cleaner you won’t be caught using single use plastic again!
- Reusable, portable & lightweight
- Made out of bamboo- naturally antibacterial and non-toxic
- Stain and odour resistant
But what makes Yuggen different, and a little bit special, is that they have gone above and beyond what might be “expected” of them as a sustainable business because, for every reusable product sold, they will plant a tree in Madagascar, Indonesia or Nepal!
This not only rebuilds natural habitats in these countries but also provides jobs for people living in poverty, helping to rebuild local economies. At the time of writing Yuggen has planted 3,390 trees and provided 34 working days! You can read more about this here.
