Do you grow your own? 🌱 Growing your own fruit & veg is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint 👣 because this food will have zero food miles. In contrast the food you purchase travels an average distance of 1,500 miles 😨 For some green gardening inspo check out @thegoodlifeainteasy whose page I am just a little bit obsessed with 😍
In 4 weeks time I’ll be away on holiday which has got me thinking quite a bit about plastic free travel ✈️ I’ve already flown a few times this year and haven’t done a great job of avoiding plastic so this time I’m committing to do better! Really interesting to see that @starbucks have launched a reusable coffee cup trial at @gatwickairport - you can borrow a cup and then return it at designated spots across the airport before boarding your flight! I think it’s a great idea to avoid single use plastic but better yet if you bring your own reusable cup then you can fill it up with water before flying (and, of course, use it on holiday to avoid plastic when you actually get there) 🏝
Yesterday was #WorldOceansDay, a day for celebrating the ocean 💧 Did you know that 70% of our oxygen comes from the ocean? Or that 94% of the earth’s living species are aquatic? Yet while it is so important for both our lives and the lives of other species, we continue to pollute it with toxins and plastics 😥 So this weekend have a think about what differences (big or small) YOU can make towards a healthier ocean 💧
On Wednesday, as part of #WorldEnvironmentDay, @aplasticplanet launched a new campaign - #OnePlasticFreeDay - where all you have to do is pick an item which you want to go plastic free, take a photo of it and tag #OnePlasticFreeDay (it also helps if you then reduce your own consumption of the item 😂). I’ve actually chosen two items which I recently found in Greece where they were getting washed towards the ocean in a rainstorm. What would you most like to see go plastic free?
